Mexico City. Neither hesitations nor zigzags. That was the message that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gave on Tuesday night to the outgoing legislators who are part of the coalition that has accompanied the so-called Fourth Transformation.
A touch of nostalgia invaded the National Palace in what was the last meeting between deputies and senators from Morena, PT and PVEM with the president. The imminent retirement of the Tabasco native from public life could not be left aside in the exchange and, in several cases, caused even crocodile tears
.
On social networks, the president briefly noted. I met with legislators who are finishing their term and who acted with loyalty to the people of Mexico: they always fought against corruption and in favor of justice
.
Yesterday, in his conference, López Obrador highlighted that it was a meeting to thank them for all their support for the transformation, because, without internal ruptures, they achieved the approval of fundamental reforms and initiatives for the transformation and consolidating social policy.
During his conference, he ruled out any attempt to promote an extraordinary period of sessions to approve the latest package of reforms that he sent to Congress, since these are constitutional changes.
To approve them, a qualified majority is required in both chambers, which the set of parties that make up their movement does not have, so they will wait for the elections to see how Congress is formed based on the people’s preferences.
Deepen the change
On Tuesday, upon leaving the meeting, the coordinator of the Morena senators, Ricardo Monreal, summarized the words of the head of the Executive: “continue with the transformation process, that there be no hesitations or zigzags, that we advance in the process of change and of political transition that took place starting in 2018.
The message is very clear: continue changing the country and deepen the transformation
commented the Zacatecan.
–How did you see the President?
–In good humor, but also nostalgic.
Senator Citlalli Hernández declared herself satisfied with the legislative work and the approved reforms. She expressed her longing for him because at the end of his six-year term, López Obrador will go to his country estate in Palenque, Chiapas, and will retire from national political life.
At the end of the meeting, deputy Gerardo Fernández Noroña defined the federal president in his very confident style: The President is a badass!
–Did you see it nostalgic?
–There’s no way I’m not, since when I left the Chamber of Deputies I was getting all crocodile. He told us: I’m leaving
and we answer: Nooooooo!
The fellow President responded: Of course, I’m leaving!
–Fernández Noroña confessed.
