The former Ecuadorian president Guillermo Lasso (2021-2023) will not seek re-election in 2025, according to a message from his political movement, Creating Opportunities (I CREO).
“The CREO Movement informs citizens that former President Guillermo Lasso Mendoza has not expressed his interest in being a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic”, says the official statement. The political group suggests that it is looking for a new candidate for the 2025 presidential elections.
Lasso himself said in X that his party’s new strategy consists of “giving way to new politicians and young people interested in building a more just and equitable country for all.”
The news comes after statements by the former Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion, Esteban Bernalwho disaffiliated from CREO last Sunday, alleging that the group was looking for a new Lasso candidacy for the presidential elections. (I)
