Terrorist attack kills 17 soldiers in the Syrian desert – 2024-05-05 00:21:06

Damascus/Prensa Latina

At least 17 Syrian soldiers lost their lives today and others were injured in simultaneous terrorist attacks against three points in the vast desert region of Al-Badieh, in the east of this Levantine nation.

Military sources consulted by Prensa Latina clarified that the incident occurred in the Rassem Al-Kom area, near the town of Al-Sukhna, about 350 kilometers northeast of Damascus, the capital.

The radical attackers belong to the Islamic State group – Daesh in Arabic – registered on the international terrorism list, the sources reported, and detailed that five of the victims were combatants from popular formations loyal to the Syrian army in the fight against terrorism.

They added that the perpetrators of this crime came from the Tanef region, on the border with Iraq, and controlled by the United States forces and its mercenary militia “Free Syrian Army.”

On April 19, at least 15 people lost their lives and others were injured in a similar terrorist attack against a bus in the east of this Levantine nation.

Meanwhile, last February, at least nine Syrian soldiers were killed and others were injured in Palmyra, in a Daesh raid.

In Al-Badieh, attacks by said terrorist group increase, whose members, according to complaints from Damascus, receive logistical support, protection and intelligence information from the North American military in Tanef.

According to analysts, Daesh has resorted, since its defeat in 2018, to gang warfare and attacks supported by clear intelligence instructions to wear down Syrian troops and their allies.

Syria faces a war imposed since 2011, and although its army, with the support of its allies Russia and Iran, liberated most of the national territory from radicals, some attacks occur that Damascus attributes to groups supported from abroad to continue destabilizing the country.
