SRE regrets the death of former ambassador Leonardo Ffrench Iduarte

Mexico City. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) mourned the death of former ambassador Leonardo Ffrench Iduarte, who died yesterday in Cuernavaca, Morelos, where he had lived since he retired in January 2001.

“We express our deepest condolences to family, friends and colleagues for the irreparable loss,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Ffrench Iduarte, a civil engineer from UNAM with postgraduate studies at the University of Paris, was a career member of the Mexican Foreign Service from October 1, 1964 to December 31, 2001.

He was assigned to the Mexican embassies in Germany (1964-1968); Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Communities (1968 to 1971); and the United States (1984-1989). He was also consul general of Mexico in Denver (1992-1995) and in Chicago (1995-1998).

He was also general director of Social Communication and the Program for Mexican Communities Abroad.

According to a profile of the Mexican Foreign Service Association (ASEM), which also mourned the death of its former president, Ffrench Iduarte served as head of the Treaty Department in the SRE (1971), as well as director of Libraries (1980 -82), general director of Social Communication (1998) and general director of the Program for Mexican Communities Abroad (1998-2000). He received the decoration as Commander of the Order of the Crown of the Kingdom of Belgium.
