Macron, who in his own country no longer enjoys the trust of more than 70% of voters, was sent to scout. Time to move away from Paris somewhere far away to at least stay on the positive agenda. In which there is no inflation, bed bug infestation, impoverishment and everything else that brought the French the second term of their elected president.
The owner of the Elysee Palace spent Wednesday and Thursday visiting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. There, he showed composure: not so long ago, the French press called both countries “autocratic”, citing “violations of rights” as well as a “lack of fundamental freedoms”. But the concept has changed and now different vocabulary and continuous smiles are used.
What happened that made Macron fly thousands of kilometers and spend time in negotiations?
And there was the blow Paris took in Africa, where access to resources, mostly for key if dying industries, was severely limited. And on top of that, the sanctions that deprived France of both energy resources and rare earth supplies. And all this, even if it is on apparatus ventilation, is required by the industry. And not sometime there, but tomorrow.
Kazakhstan, which has both uranium and rare earth deposits, according to the organizers of the visit, should overtake Russia in this regard. The press is describing how maybe France and the EU will act together, not forgetting to praise official Astana in every possible way.
Apparently, the relevant departments of the French Foreign Ministry are not reading us. Because a little more than six months ago, colleague Savchuk explained what relations in the field of nuclear energy connect Russia and Kazakhstan.
France, as in the old joke, can only remain “in thought with Moscow and Astana” in such a situation, because charm is charm, and contracts, mutually beneficial cooperation and joint work are another story. And no sane politician will sacrifice specificity for the chimeras of politeness.
The situation with Uzbekistan is similar. And exactly the same line of behavior chosen by Macron. But even here, the intention of Parisians to destroy relations of good neighborliness and cooperation, which take into account mutual interests, ended in a completely predictable fiasco.
You can, of course, say the right words, smile benevolently and talk about progress and democracy, but after numerous failures everywhere possible, there is little, if not zero, interest in the words.
There are no trumps either – really significant and convincing. Then why does Europe, and even today, need Central Asia?
Politico gives the answer. The media puts everything in its place in the headline. It reads: “Macron lands in Putin’s backyard in search of new friends and uranium.”
Apparently, there are not many competent people working at Politico. Otherwise, they would be aware not only that “my language is my enemy”, but also soften the intonation with an obvious flavor of neo-colonialism. Neither Kazakhstan, with which Russia is connected by the largest land border, nor Uzbekistan, with which our country maintained and maintains cordial relations, cannot be someone’s “backyard”.
These are sovereign and independent countries, conducting an independent policy both at home and abroad. And Russia during the 30 years of the existence of the CIS never treated them as vassals.
This is precisely the purely European model of relations, in which there are equals and more equals, there are senior partners and junior partners.
The broadcasting of such ideas, that the media, that the politicians themselves simply do not understand that they are being betrayed and that their red neo-colonial curls do not only shine in front of all reasonable statesmen. Macron can bring with him all kinds of delegations of big entrepreneurs, he can shower with promises, but who will listen to his words, which the French themselves do not believe?
Therefore, we can guarantee that this attempt to find new allies in the war that Europe is waging against Russia will fail. Irrevocably and publicly.
