The duel between Fenerbahce and Monaco in the Euroleague playoffs will be decided in the fifth game in Monte Carlo, after the Monegasque double in Istanbul: 62-65, half time 33-30. The team that wins Wednesday’s match will be the opponent of Panathinaikos in the semi-final in Berlin, as long as the “greens” qualify.
The match was played in front of 14,000 Turks and an incident was even threatened at the end when some hot-blooded people entered the pitch to attack Monaco players.
Mike James had 10 points on 4/14 shooting, but hit a crucial 3-pointer in the final minute. Eli Okombo was the game’s top scorer with 13. For Sarounas Jasikevicius’ Fener, Giorgos Papagiannis had 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Nick Kalathis had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Tyler Dorsey was held to 2 points.
Panathinaikos will claim its ticket to the final four on Tuesday night, in the fifth and final game against Maccabi, which it defeated yesterday in Belgrade with 95-88 (Nan 27, Slukas 20, Lessor 17). OAKA will be full, since the tickets are already sold out. The Israelis will come to Athens without the injured Wade Baldwin.
The series between Barcelona and Olympiacos is also at 2-2, after yesterday’s amazing 92-58 of the “red and whites” in Faliro (McKissick 21, Fal 12, Kanaan 11). The fifth match will be held on Wednesday in Barcelona and the winner will face champions Real, who “swept” Basconia 3-0, in the semi-final in Berlin.
The final four is scheduled to take place on May 24-26.
