“Darién: A Plug of Dreams” is a documentary that exposes the current situation of migrants. Especially the boys, girls and adolescents who cross the most dangerous jungle in the world every day.

The Colombia and Multicountry Response team was in the Panamanian Darién collecting evidence about the difficult situations that migrants of various nationalities must face and where the presence of girls, boys and adolescents predominates.

When we talk about childhood and adolescence on the move, they are children under 18 years of age who have left their place of birth or origin and have moved to another place. Refugee and/or migrant girls, boys and adolescents are especially prone to vulnerability due to their age and mobility status.

With this documentary, World Vision aims to position migration in the Darién as a social crisis that not only affects the countries where the migrants come from or the countries that share this border. Migration in the Darién is a universal problem, which requires everyone’s attention and where we can all contribute to prevent more girls, boys, adolescents or adults from suffering violence or life itself in this step.

¿What happens to migrant children and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean?

Girls, boys and adolescents represent between 20 and 25% of refugees and/or migrants in the region. Being a girl, boy or adolescent on the move increases the probability of suffering violations due to multiple factors such as malnutrition and dehydration, lack of resources and access to healthy food and water suitable for human consumption, movement without accompaniment or separated from their parents. families and lack of access to basic services.

To transform perception and raise awareness about the importance of respecting and protecting the rights of children and adolescents on the move, it is necessary to work on educational campaigns to generate a cultural change that promotes greater understanding and empathy towards this group.
