MADRID, 17 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, acknowledged this Sunday that there was an agreement to exchange the opponent Alexei Navalny with Western countries, but his death prevented it from materializing.
«There was an idea of exchanging Navalni for those who are in Western countries. I agreed. We wanted to trade him and not have him come back. “You can believe me or not,” Putin said in conversation with the press from his election campaign headquarters in Moscow, reported by public television RBC.
“Yeah. He died. It is always sad, but there are also other cases of people deprived of their liberty who die. Doesn’t it happen in the United States? “It has happened more than once,” she argued.

On February 16, the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Yamalia-Nenets Autonomous District announced the death of Navalny after “feeling unwell during a walk” in the Siberian Polar Wolf prison. Moscow rejected criticism of his death and maintains that it was due to natural causes.
The 47-year-old activist had been imprisoned since his arrest in January 2021 when he returned to Moscow from Berlin, where he had been recovering from a poisoning that both he and Western governments attributed to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s security service.
