Every week we list the hottest new tracks for you. This week there is new music from Purple Disco Machine, Ronnie Flex, Sera, Kane, Miss Montreal and Marshmello, among others.
HONEY BOY – Purple Disco Machine x Benjamin Ingrosso feat. Nile Rodgers & Shenseea
For Tion Piontek, the man behind Purple Disco Machine, disco is never far away and has actually been that way for a large part of his life, although his father mainly collected the work of Genesis and Phil Collins. You could already hear that disco sound on his previous Top 40 hits, including Hypnotized, Dopamine, In The Dark and Beat Of Your Heart, but on Honey Boy the German producer takes it even further. For this track he collaborated with guitarist Nile Rodgers, the man who made himself immortal through his band Chic with hits such as Le Freak and Good Times. As if that were not enough, he roped in Benjamin Ingrosso, who finished seventh for his country Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 with Dance You Off, and the Jamaican singer Shenseaa. She has previously worked with Megan Thee Stallion, Calvin Harris and The Chainsmokers, among others.
DESIRE – Ronnie Flex
It was a bright spot in a difficult time: the milestone that Ronnie Flex recently reached in the Dutch Top 40. Partly thanks to the performance of Alles Op Gevoel, he became the most successful rapper ever in the more than 60-year history of the List of Lists. The resident of Capelle aan den IJssel thus left giants such as Eminem behind him. In recent months there has been a lot of talk about the battle with his former label and last week there was a misunderstanding with Anouk. But fortunately there is now new music and you can hear Ronnie’s unique versatility again. Desire sounds like what you imagine on a sultry summer evening. The track contains a touch of reggaeton, a touch of dancehall and a small dash of Aventura, supplemented with a small pinch of soul.
MOCKINGBIRD – Tiësto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Gabry Ponte
Back to Eminem: in 2005 he had a hit with Mockingbird, which was in the Top 40 for 5 weeks and reached number 25. On this song he rapped candidly about his bond with his daughter Hailey and his struggles with his childhood sweetheart Kim. Tiësto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Gabry Ponte have now used the chorus of Mockingbird for their own Mockingbird. They built a major club stomper around it, which will undoubtedly set Tomorrowland on fire. Smart, because it wasn’t that long ago that Mockingbird was a viral hit on TikTok, among others. By the way, the basis of the track has been around for a long time: Eminem used the traditional children’s song Hush, Little Baby. A song that parents use, especially in the United States, to lull their child to sleep.
HURT ME – Sera
To say that Sera is doing well in terms of hits is perhaps an understatement. In 2021, the Sliedrecht native broke through with Only Us and has been going like a rocket ever since. Last year she was an indispensable part of the Dutch Top with hits such as Head Held High, Best Friend, Stay (Never Leave) (with Kris Kross Amsterdam and Conor Maynard) and I Can’t Be The Only One (with YouNotUs). 40. The next song to hit the list is Hurt Me. “I’m really so fucking excited about Hurt Me,” she said last Thursday in Qmusic’s Q afternoon show. “This is really my picture. When I made this, I thought: I think this is totally cool. The vibe, but also the lyrics and then I think: this is kind of my style. I’ve been really looking for what I like. So this is it.” She is clear about the track: “I think Hurt Me is a bit of a brother to Head Held High. It feels very coherent and in terms of lyrics it is different than I have done before. It’s about a ‘toxic love relationship’, but not mine.” Sera based the song on a story from a friend.
WHAT IF I WANT YOU NOW – Kane
It can’t have escaped your attention that Kane is back. A documentary on Videoland, an Alarm disc for comeback single What Are You Waiting For?, five sold-out shows in the Ziggo Dome in June, a spectacular opening of Qmusic Top 40 Awards Live in Rotterdam Ahoy, a Live On The Beach concert on the beach van Scheveningen on August 30 and its own magazine from the makers of Soundz. It is a summary of what the band has achieved in recent months. This week, What If I Want You Now, Kane’s first track in 2024, was released out of nowhere. In a statement, the band explains how the song came about: “We are in the studio in Amsterdam and have ‘the time of our life’ there. lives’. Searching for new songs together, playing live with the band, designing the Ziggo Dome RE/CONNECT shows. It is an incredibly beautiful, fun, wonderful time together. And then suddenly there is that song. It is a melodic pop-rock track charged with positive energy. Full of passion and love for the writing, recording, mixing and mastering process.”
