A smart watch Amazfit active edge came out late autumn 2023. This is a compromise device with the design of Casio G-Shock, but nevertheless it has the basic options and something else.
Pavel Horodnytsky evaluated the device for the channel “Very bad reviews”and in this text you can read the main conclusions about the Active Edge watch.
First, about the benefits. I liked the design of the device. They are not big, they are not big, but very brutal and at the same time unisex. There are different color options, you can choose according to your style. Active Edges are also indestructible: they can hit the table, touch dumbbells and weights in the gym, and hit door frames. There will be nothing for them.
This model is tested according to military standards, so even in sand, muddy water or temperatures down to -20 degrees, it will feel good.
The device came with 10 ATM water resistance. This means that the housing may come off at great depths, but in a shower, swimming pool or a normal river, nothing will happen to the watch. At the same time, the weight of the device is 34 grams – nonsense. You can sleep in them if you want. Nothing unnecessary is pressed in the hall.
I really liked that Active Edge it turned out to be completely universal and practical. They have convenient physical buttons, of which there are four, for selecting an action, going back on one screen, navigating up and down. That is, the engineers abandoned the wheel and added this control element.
People use them while working out, so the watch should be good at counting steps and other activity indicators. The Amazfit device does this well. However, to be fair, there are no longer any wearable devices on the market that measure activity very poorly. It is good that Active Edge confirms this rule.
Now some disadvantages. First of all, the watch does not have a single cool dial, which is very strange. Even the most infamous fitness tracker usually has normal skin. The average fit dial – 5 out of 10 points – is shown in the picture below. Good dials may be added later.
Second, cheap watches have a cheap IPS screen. It dies under sunlight (hard to read), the refresh rate is 30 Hz (it doesn’t slow down, but the lack of smoothness is visible), the black color here is expectedly not rich – with it’s not OLED.
Unfortunately, there is no display lock. That is, under the water the watch starts to catch random press. There are no critical complaints – as you noticed, they are all related to the screen.
Active Edge’s autonomy isn’t bad, but it’s not great either – just standard. On one charge, if used in moderate mode, the device will last 10-12 days. Of course not Amazfit Balance (review on the channel), but not the Apple Watch either – the latter runs out of charge in 1-2 days. Most likely, the Active Edge watch will withstand at least three running workouts per week with GPS turned on.
What are the conclusions? Now the Amazfit device can be purchased for 11-12 thousand rubles. It seems that the usual price for them is 10 thousand rubles. That is, for ten it will be a very good offer. For 7-8K Active Edge you must buy it urgently, it is a real deal.
Where do they get a special benefit from? For fans of sports, real sports, physical buttons, and also if you run in the gym (where the lights are not very bright, as in the sun) and you like to hit your watch on a hard surface. Also, don’t expect a very cool screen, it’s just average.
