The International Court of Justice (ICJ), based in The Hague, decided to reject Nicaragua’s lawsuit that asked to stop arms shipments from Germany to Israel.

The United Nations’ highest court argued that Germany abides by regulations and indicated that there has been a “significant decline” in the European country’s agreements with Israel since November. However, the Court considered that it is “especially important to remember” that all states must comply with a series of obligations when sending weapons to countries that are involved in a conflict. The ICJ indicated that it remains “deeply concerned” about the living conditions of Palestinians.

On March 1, Nicaragua sued Germany before the ICJ on the grounds that Berlin’s decision to cut off its assistance to the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) constitutes support for Israel’s “genocide” in the Palestinian enclave.
According to the Nicaraguan Government, Germany provided support political, financial and military to Israel knowing that the same would be used to commit «serious violations of international law.
