Traffic has resumed, acts of vandalism denied

Libreville, Tuesday April 30, 2024 (Gabon News) – The Société d’exploitation du Transgabonais (SETRAG) announced the resumption of rail traffic following acts of sabotage carried out by persons still unknown.

In a press release made public on Saturday, SETRAG, the manager of the Gabonese railway, announced that traffic that had been interrupted the day before would resume. The company also announces frivolous actions already carried out on April 20 with bands that are still running, especially at PK58 +900 between Andem and Mbel stations.

The latter violently attacked the infrastructure by placing dangerous objects on the railway tracks that could stop trains.

According to SETRAG officials, a train accident was almost avoided. It was because of being alert, and above all the professionalism of the drivers, that the danger was spread.

In another press release, SETRAG announced that traffic was disrupted after an empty mine train of 26 wagons derailed, which happened on Friday April 26, this time between Milole and Lastourville stations, in the area of ​​’ Ogooué-Lolo.

“Railway traffic was temporarily suspended after train No. 3473 at Pk 476 +958, damaging nearly 300 meters of railway track. A situation that led to the cancellation of passenger trains No. 511 departs from Owendo and No. 532 departing from Franceville, scheduled for Friday April 26, 2024.

SETRAG officials are aware that there are malicious people who work on their traffic through sabotage and vandalism. An investigation is being launched to eliminate them and punish them according to the law.

What benefit do they gain by appearing this way? People ask in public opinion. Against this situation, some suggest that SETRAG, before the train leaves from one station to another, first ensure peace of mind on the journey, this to prevent damage recorded up to to avoid this, and which will cause great harm to users, while leaving them almost on the alert.
