The Prescott and Russell Center for Entrepreneurship (CECR) awarded $40,000 worth of grants to several entrepreneurs in the United Counties area of Prescott and Russell as part of its Start-Up Company Plus program.
As part of the Start-Up Plus program, offered in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, these entrepreneurs participated in several training workshops on topics such as transparency of supply and demand, the ideal customer, communication strategy, innovation, acquisition and organization, innovative sales, accounting, tools and profits, elevator speech and networking.
Coaches Antoine Carrière (Entrepreneurs Lifestyle Academy) and Marc Lecompte (Kwik Tax) offered training to entrepreneurs.
To be selected, participants not only had to participate in the workshops, but also to develop their business plan and present it to a selection committee made up of Louis Béland (Training Commission Eastern Ontario), Renée Gendron (Paro Center for l’Entreprise des femmes), Victor-Urbain Ngollo Ngollo (La Cité desaffaires) and Halima Taouaou (Société Économique de l’Ontario).
The funding, received in the form of a non-refundable grant, will support businesses with the purchase of equipment and products, marketing costs as well as costs related to the launch and expansion of a new business .
“During these training workshops, entrepreneurs planned the next operational steps of their business and interacted with each other, allowing them to build relationships, develop a professional network and gain relevant experience,” said Liza Langevin, project manager at CECR.
In total, eight entrepreneurs received grants of $5,000 each.
Bailey Playfair, who started her own business, Rockland-based Playfair Cleaning Services, two years ago, said she is always looking for opportunities to donate as a new business owner.
She turned to CEFR for help and advice and ended up taking part in the Start-Up programme.
“The whole process has been very interesting and I’m very grateful to have been offered this opportunity,” said Ms Playfair. “I got everything I needed through the Start-Up Company program Plus.
