KFC Outlets Closed in Malaysia After Gaza Protest: Reports

Kuala Lumpur: After the war in Gaza, more than 100 outlets of the American fast food chain KFC were closed in Malaysia. There had been a boycott of KFC in Malaysia for over a month to protest US aid to Israel in Gaza.

After this, more than 100 KFC outlets were closed in Malaysia. Chinese media reported the news. According to the report, 108 of the 600 outlets across Malaysia had to be temporarily closed. According to the report, most of them are in the Muslim majority state of Kelantan.

Financial challenges led to the center being closed. KFC outlets in Malaysia have 18,000 employees. It is reported that 85 percent of KFC customers in the country were Muslims.

A boycott was called against KFC in Malaysia, a Muslim-majority country, protesting that America was supporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza. There were also calls for a boycott against McDonald’s after it reported in February that it was distributing food to Israeli soldiers. After this, McDonald’s responded that the boycott has destroyed them financially.

Reports also emerged that Muslim majority countries would have to face further economic collapse. McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczynski responded in February that the impact of the war on business in these countries was “disappointing”. He said sales may not recover even before the end of the year.
