From a 6-day 12-hour workweek in factories less than a century ago, the world is moving towards more intellectual work and the imposition of a 4-day workweek.
The situation on the labor market has changed a lot in recent years. The demographic crisis, cultural change, social media, labor shortages are factors that both employers and employees cannot ignore.
This was commented to BNR-Radio Sofia by human resources specialist Georgi Parvanov, who is part of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Employment Confederation.
He noted that there are still countries – in Africa and in Asia – where the working week is 6 days. At the same time, there are already countries experimenting with a 3-day work week.
According to Parvanov, we will work 4 days a week even before 2030.
With Generation X, changing jobs is no longer a problem. With Y and Z, there is no more belonging to the service, the office stays as little as possible. A social cause is needed to ignite and motivate employees. More balance between work and personal time is sought, attention is paid to the possibility of remote work.
For younger employees, the training, career development, benefits and bonuses that the employer offers are important.
“We must prepare for a labor market in which we will coexist and work side by side with colleagues of different nationalities – added Parvanov. – Trade unions will have their place in the future. After the tripartite, we can now talk about quadripartite, considering the agencies for personnel selection.”
In my words, people with disabilities, in pre-retirement and even after retirement are a good reserve that can be used in case of staff shortage.
Employers should not forget that people are their most valuable asset.
