On Tuesday, April 30, Carl Gustaf’s 78th birthday was celebrated at Stockholm Palace with pomp and fanfare.
After a 21-shot salute was fired from Skeppsholmen point at 12 o’clock, the public was given the opportunity to congratulate the king in the outer castle yard and children of various ages handed over flowers. Other members of the royal family appeared on the balcony above the western castle vault.
It all ended with the military march Marcia Carolus Rex, performed by the three bands of the Armed Forces, the Dragoon Music Band of the Life Guards, the Army Band and the Navy Band.
During the afternoon and evening, a private celebration for the king is also expected, according to the court.
In September 2023, it was 50 years since King Carl XVI Gustaf took office as King of Sweden.
