German shipbuilder ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has initiated legal proceedings against the Dutch Ministry of Defence. The German company is against the ministry’s decision to give permission to build four submarines to grant to the French state company Naval.

Secretary of State Van der Maat confirms a message from De Telegraaf in a letter to the House of Representatives.

The cabinet announced the decision to build submarines last month. This is related to the order of 4 to 6 billion euros. The three companies competing for the order had 15 days to respond. At their request, that period was extended to almost a month.

A contract not yet signed

In addition to TKMS, the combination of the Dutch company Damen Shipyards and the Swedish Saab also lost the contract. According to the Ministry of Defence, they accept the decision.

Van der Maat says he is investigating the call from TKMS. Until then, the contract with the Navy will not be signed.

It is not yet known when the summary proceedings will be held, but the ministry does not expect the summary proceedings to have any effect on the submarine construction plan.
