Jakarta –
The Indonesian Ministry of Health reported a significant increase in cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Indonesia. According to data for the 17th week of 2024, the figure continues to rise, up to three times compared to the same period last year.
There are a total of 88,593 cumulative cases this year and in 2023 the ‘only’ figure will not be recorded at 28,579 cases. There was also an almost threefold increase in the trend of deaths due to dengue fever.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Health said the total number of deaths reached 621 people, an increase from 209 deaths in 2023 in the same period. Bandung City and Regency will both lead the highest number of new cases and highest deaths in 2024.
The Head of the Public Service Communications Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, detailed the top five areas with the most dengue cases, as follows:
5 Districts/City with the Highest Cases in 2024
1.Bandung City 3468 cases
2. Tangerang Regency 2540 cases
3 cases in Bogor Town 1944
4. City Kendari 1659 cases
5. West Bandung Regency 1576 cases
5 Areas / Cities with the Highest DHF Deaths in 2024
1.Bandung Regency 29 deaths
2.Jepara Regency 21 deaths
3. Bekasi City 19 deaths
4. Subang regency 18 deaths
5. Kendal Regency 17 deaths
The Director of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Imran Pambudi, previously explained that the increase in cases was also related to climate change. Mosquitoes live and breed longer so their numbers are higher.
“Not only will climate change put a strain on health services, because it causes cases to rise and escalate, but we also think climate change will put a strain on the health system . For example, drought,” explained Imran some time ago.
