ABV Chairman Rumen Petkov leads the “Levitsa!” list in Burgas for the elections for people’s representatives. The composition of the Burgas list also includes the formation’s regional coordinator Anton Kodjabashev, the chairman of the Karnobat Municipal Council Margarita Stamatova and the journalist Sevda Dimitrova.
In front of the media in Burgas, Rumen Petkov emphasized the key issues for the region, such as security in the Black Sea region, the urgent need for responsible state institutions, with the will to guarantee the implementation of the Montreux Convention (regulation on the regime of passage and stay of naval vessels through the Black Sea straits).
He emphasized the position of the “Left!” and demanded a guarantee that the regulations in the Convention would be respected, as well as a guarantee that the Black Sea base in Atia would not become a foreign port.
Petkov noted the absence of any position from the Bulgarian side regarding a strategic law introduced in the US Senate on the security of the Black Sea. From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “The Left!” received an answer that none of the texts in the American law in question have been agreed with Bulgaria, as a country directly affected by the document.
Rumen Petkov emphasized the subject of “Lukoil” and the adopted fuel derogation law, emphasizing the severe financial impact on the refinery, as well as the direct impact on the energy security of Bulgaria and the region, and the impact on the technological organization of work in the refinery – and all this without any political and public debate.
If the state institutions do not take the possible urgent actions to guarantee the normal functioning of the refinery, the blow to Burgas will be the heaviest, but also on a national scale the blow will be extremely heavy – directly on 3,000 people and indirectly – on 30,000 people, explained Petkov and added that if the actions to preserve fuel prices are suspended, the blow to both industry and consumers will be catastrophic.
“The Left!” is the bearer of the guarantee that the national interest will be preserved with a public debate, because all previous parliamentary formations are complicit in this catastrophe, Rumen Petkov also said.
Anton Kojabashev defined the stopping of the photovoltaic project in the Black Sea as a great victory for the “Left”, a huge opposition to which the tourism industry and fishermen declared. He emphasized the upcoming summer season and the lack of qualified personnel.
Margarita Stamatova noted the need to support small agricultural producers, as, according to her, in recent years the emphasis has been on large ones. According to her, municipalities such as Karnobat, Aytos and Sredets, which are in the interior of the district, have the greatest interest precisely in the development of agriculture.
Sevda Dimitrova stated that it is time for the citizens to remember that they are sovereign and to send people to the executive and legislative authorities who will work for the national interest, and not those who will be clackers in front of Europe and NATO. Regarding her native Burgas, she commented that, first of all, she always connects with culture and added that she is glad that it continues to be a cultural center.
However, Dimitrova expressed her concerns regarding education among young people in Bulgaria, as the data show that learners are becoming less and less functionally literate.
