It’s no secret that EA Sports makes sports games every year and has done so for a long time, including Codemasters’ own cash cow: the F1 series. Every year, a new lens comes out with small improvements that could easily be delivered with a simple patch, but thanks to enough clever marketing and seasonal content, users keep coming to him and paying full price year after year. As for WRC, Codemasters bought the license before EA acquired the studio, and rumors suggest that WRC won’t release every year, but there will be two games in the five years that the license holds EA, which will be in the form of a renewed DLC. I don’t think that will be true. EA Sports WRC is happening too small to live beyond 2024. I think the next game will be announced at the end of June and released in September.
After 200 hours with EA Sports WRC, a persistent feeling is that it is too easy compared to Dirt Rally 2.0. Cars don’t break down in the same way, the levels are more forgiving, there are less unforgiving seconds, and the feeling of speed is lower.
The sound in WRC, like the graphics, is much worse than in the now five-year-old Rally Dirt 2.0, which is quite ridiculous.
Although time is tight, the WRC still has a lot to do if it is to succeed and develop at the same pace as the Formula 1 championship has done over the past 10 years. It’s not that EA Sports WRC is a bad game (quite different), it’s that it’s clearly inferior to Dirt Rally 2.0, which is now over five years old . Codemasters understands this. EA Sports WRC hasn’t been as popular as Dirt Rally 2.0, and it still isn’t, which logically means that much of the content included in this year’s collection must be – last year review.
Here’s a hint:
What has always been great about the WRC is the range of cars and the feel of the cars, and the diversity of the different countries and stages.
Codemasters promised real triple search support, but unfortunately, it didn’t materialize.
As far as I’m concerned, the focus needs to shift a bit. From a controller-based game with a casual style level based mostly in Finland and Croatia, to a game that first embraced sim racing fans and then took other players with it. As Assetto Corsa did, it turned out to be a genius. Steering wheel support needs to be focused on, better feedback will also be important for the next race. As with better graphics, a big leap is needed here. It must flow and perform better, it must have proper support for the triple screen, and the platform must be filled with ditches, rocks, logs and the usual rally hazards that make the type This motor sport is dangerous, just like in reality. Equal. In addition to this there is unstoppable (gameplay, not visual) damage to cars, as well as more realistic terminal damage scenarios for those with the hard drive damage system enabled. If you hit a rock at 100 km/h, there is no doubt that the rally must end.
Since cars rarely break down in WRC (mechanically speaking), there is no problem with hitting embankments (the left side of the car) like this, which is usually the case in Dirt Rally 2.0 leading to puncture.
Here’s a hint:
The sound in Dirt Rally 2.0 is several times better than in EA Sports WRC, thanks to more rebound and more tire / crash.
Dirt Rally 2.0 was released in February 2019 and is based on Codemasters’ own Ego Engine, perhaps as EA Sports WRC should be.
Sounds need more punch and reverb, VR support needs to be there from day one, and Codemasters could drop Builder mode entirely. It was and is completely meaningless. However, we will see how this goes this summer. If, contrary to what I believe, Codemasters decided to update the existing games, I think they would have a hard time keeping interest, but on the other hand, they have proven with the F1 game, once the engine is properly warmed up, they will be able to do it in relatively small The development team and costs are increasing.
