French actor Gerard Depardieu, who was detained earlier today by police in Paris for questioning over alleged sexual assaults, has been released, Reuters and the Associated Press reported.
Christian Saint-Palais, one of the movie star’s lawyers, announced to the BeFM television channel that his client has been released and no charges have been brought against him, BTA informs.
Two women claim they were sexually harassed by Gerard Depardieu on set. One case is from 2021 and the second from 2014.
Investigating authorities are verifying the statements of the two ladies.
Both the Paris police and the prosecutor’s office have so far declined to comment, Reuters notes.
Dozens of women claim that they were sexually harassed by Depardieu, the news agencies recall.
The actor, who is 75, was charged in December 2020 with rape and sexual assault following a complaint by actress Charlotte Arnoux, who reported two rapes in late August 2018 at his home in Paris.
Gerard Depardieu categorically denies.
