Woman is sentenced for the crime against public faith in the form of identity theft

The Specialized Cybercrime Prosecutor’s Office obtained a sentence of two years and six months of suspended imprisonment for the creation of a false profile on Facebook.

The Second Office of the Provincial Corporate Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Cybercrime of Lima Centro, got the Judiciary to issue a two-year sentence – with early termination – for the continued crime against public faith in the form of identity theft, against Janet Mireya Zevallos Salazar.

According to the prosecution, the convicted woman created a false account on Facebook using the name and images of the victim, who learned from her work colleague that the aforementioned account had her name and personal photographs, a fact that would be linked to a former romantic partner.

Given this, the prosecutor presented, as elements of conviction, the direct link to the telephone line owned by the convicted woman and the creation of said profile on the social network Facebook; In addition, the conservation of said false profile.

In this way, the Public Ministry reaffirms its commitment to prevent and punish criminal conduct that affects computer systems and data committed through the use of information technology with the objective of protecting the privacy, integrity and rights of people.
