Mexico City. The National Center for the Arts (Cenart) celebrated International Dance Day this Saturday with a day festive and family
whose first protagonists were some little dancers who captivated hundreds of spectators gathered in the Plaza de las Artes.
Dressed in classic ballet attire: tights, tutu, leotard and slippers, the little four-year-old artists created a magical atmosphere on stage through smooth and precise movements, combined with the tenderness typical of their age.
We have students from three to 43 years old. On this occasion, the audience was able to appreciate a basic story that alludes to the emotional problem that girls face from a young age: fear.
explained Ireland Lara Mora, teacher of Precise Dance School of Artistic Initiation, an entity specialized in classical, Spanish, contemporary and jazz genres.
“The function was part of the program Dance in life itself; This discipline helps children mature and grow through challenges. Parents have even told us that since their children have been practicing dance they have become more disciplined.
It is evident that the little ones have difficulty focusing, but the most beautiful thing is when they make use of their wonderful spontaneity. Not even one as a teacher can imagine what they are going to say or do when they forget a step, but their occurrences are very useful to get ahead and look natural.
Recreation and inspiration
The cultural gala was articulated by 60 activities, 53 free performances in 11 spaces of the property, by 47 companies, with the participation of 650 dancers on stage. However, at the close of this edition, it was not specified how many visitors came to Cenart – the meeting concluded at 8 p.m. – although said institution reported that in 2023, the influx was almost 11 thousand people
.
The favorable weather conditions helped both artists and visitors enjoy outdoor activities, such as in the green areas of Cenart, where some workshops dedicated to body expression were held.

Classical, folkloric, contemporary, tango, Spanish, danzón, butoh and Hindu dances were brought to the stage by renowned companies, such as the Contemporary Dance Production Center, the UNAM Choreographic Workshop, Danza Capital and Barro Rojo Escético. .
Companies from other entities also participated, such as Arte Facto Danza de Xalapa and the School of Fine Arts of the State of Mexico, as well as professional institutions, including the Academy of Mexican Dance, the national schools of Classical and Contemporary Dance, and Nellie and Gloria Campobello.
As the afternoon passed, the arrival of families and couples who came to the cultural center to enjoy the activities scheduled in honor of this ancient art became evident.
I brought my children because I believe that dance, like any of the fine arts, offers two essential aspects: one recreational and the other inspiring. On this occasion we were able to appreciate ballet and a freer style
Gustavo Elizalde, who attended the function of Don Quixote, fragment of the third act Wedding, by the Academy of Mexican Dance.
A wonderful afternoon
Meanwhile, what began as a family outing for María Rioja, originally from Iztacalco, ended up being a day formidable
for her and her grandson.
“I brought my grandson to a painting workshop, but we took the opportunity to see two presentations: Coppelia, from the Classical Dance School of the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center, and The threads of destiny, by Fusionarte Danza. For me, dance is a powerful means of communication. Maybe not everyone likes it, but it stimulates the imagination.”
The closing of the artistic day was carried out by the Lina Ravines Flamenco Company, the Ritual Dance Theater Stage Laboratory and the National Folk Dance School Company.
International Dance Day was proclaimed in 1982 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It is celebrated on April 29 in commemoration of the birth of the French dancer and choreographer Jean-Georges Noverre.
