The Bolivian Foreign Minister, Celinda Sosa, reaffirmed in Russia Bolivia’s determination to join the group of nations known as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
“The BRICS have become an alternative to contribute and support a fairer and more equitable development. This is a very important economic and commercial bloc, which is why Bolivia hopes to be part of it to be able to contribute from our country,” said Sosa in a press conference he gave together with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, according to information released today Friday by the Bolivian Foreign Ministry.
For Sosa, the integration of Bolivia into the BRICS will mean not only an opportunity for the Andean country, but also an important step for Latin America in the configuration of a more equitable and balanced international scenario.
He also highlighted Bolivia’s strategic position and its vision of sustainable development as significant contributions to the region and the world in general.
For his part, Lavrov expressed Russian support for Bolivian aspirations and his commitment to ensuring positive responses to those countries interested in approaching the group.
“Russia supports Bolivia’s aspirations (to join the BRICS). In its role as president of the BRICS this year, Russia is interested in ensuring that the maximum possible number of countries that want to approach the grouping, either to become members of the bloc, or to establish stable and permanent associations, receive a response concrete positive,” explained the Russian Foreign Minister.
Sosa’s visit to Russia marks another important step in Bolivia’s foreign policy, demonstrating its interest and commitment to the world, promoting dialogue between both sister nations, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the invitation to Bolivia to participate in the XV BRICS Summit in Johannesburg was a significant step in this rapprochement process.
