Before that, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 shook the region of Garut Regency with its epicenter in the sea at a depth of 70 kilometers and boundaries of 8.42 South Longitude and 107.26 East Longitude.

Reporting from the BMKG report, looking at the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake was a moderate earthquake that occurred as a result of rock deformation activity in the Indo-Australian plate subducted under the Eurasian plate in the south of West Java or commonly known as intra-plate earthquake (intra-slab earthquake). Source mechanism analysis results show that the earthquake has an upward motion mechanism (Thrust Fault).

BNPB appealed to the public to remain calm and not to be influenced by issues that cannot be confirmed regarding this earthquake disaster.

The public is also advised to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged during the earthquake. Check and ensure that the residential building is sufficiently earthquake resistant, or that there is no damage due to earthquakes that will endanger the stability of the building before returning to the house.
