Sindy Portillo, the best Salvadoran at the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Longboard Championship 2024 – – 2024-04-28 12:00:39

Sindy Portillo said goodbye to the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Longboard Championship 2024 yesterday as the best surfer in the Salvadoran delegation.

The national team advanced to the fifth round of the repechage of the contest that takes place on El Sunzal beach, being the last of the host delegation to be in competition on the penultimate day of the world event.

The Miguel from Miguel was placed in third place in her heat by adding 7.83 points, closing her participation in the event with that result. Ahead of her were Frenchwoman Alice Lemoinge (13.27) and Costa Rican Lia Díaz (10.50).

Portillo improved his participation compared to his performance in the 2023 edition of this competition, where he reached round three in the main bracket.

Meanwhile, Claudia Tamacas, who this year became the new Salvadoran talent in this modality, reached the first round of the playoffs.

Karlo Mejía, Sindy’s coach, analyzed what the athlete achieved in her second world surfing event in its category.

“What we can analyze about Sindy’s participation is that there is enormous progress in her competitive level, remembering what happened last year when we did not advance from the first rounds. Regarding this day, she is aware of what she has achieved in the quest to reach the final. It should be noted that in this edition more countries came, today there were 127 athletes,” said Mejía.

The strategist explained what his pupil needs to improve in competition and what took its toll on him this afternoon.

“We have to work more on the tactical part. Portillo is very polite with her rivals, she waits for the other girls in her heat to take her waves and then waits for her priority, that is why now we are going to insist that she be more adventurous and look for good waves. We are going to improve her diet to be ready for other competitions,” said Karlo.

Of course, the coach took the opportunity to express his positive way of seeing the future of the national athlete and on which the hopes of achieving a world champion are placed.

“We are going to have a world champion in the future. She can achieve it because she has the level. Starting from this event, we are going to work on the SWOT to analyze its strengths and weaknesses, which are relevant points for future events,” Mejía added.

As for what is coming not only with Sindy, but with the entire modality, he stated that they will begin training to focus on achieving a better score in the national events.

“As a coach we are going to seek to massify this modality, since we have few girls and we want to have more surfers. We have immediate events, such as the national circuits that will be relevant to them,” said Karlo.
