A 13-year-old boy has found a very rare Lego piece on Marazion beach. It’s about octopus, of which more than 4,000 ended up in the sea 27 years ago.
Nearly five million Lego pieces ended up in the water in 1997 when a high wave pushed 62 containers off the freighter Tokyo Express. These pieces regularly wash up on nearby beaches. And so it happened that thirteen-year-old Liutauras Cemolonskas, who is thirteen, has found almost eight hundred pieces on the beach of Marazion, a town in the English county of Cornwall.
On that same beach he has now found a Lego octopus, of which 4,200 were on board the ship when the cargo ended up in the sea. “It’s not easy to find,” Vitautas’ father told the PA news agency. “We didn’t expect to find one, they are very rare. We have been looking for this for two years.” The teenager himself says he is “very happy” with what he found.

The father and son’s next goal is to find one of the 33,941 dragons that ended up in the water in 1997. Tracey Williams from the Lego Lost At Sea project is encouraging the duo’s efforts. “There’s something magical about these octopuses,” she says. “I found one in 1997 and it took 17 years. I think people like to find Lego on the beach because they also clean the beach with it.”
