After a meeting that lasted until late at night, on Thursday, April 11, between the residents of the Velille district, Cusco province of Chumbivilcas, and representatives of the Las Bambas mining company, an agreement was reached that lifted the measure of force and maintained blocked the road of the Vial Sur corridor.
Through open and frank dialogue, the national government helped the Las Bambas mining company and Velille authorities and organized civil society agree to lift the forceful measures and implement actions for the sustainable development of the town.
During the meeting, promoted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, through the Secretariat of Social Management and Dialogue, the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of the Interior, the Executive assumed the commitment to promote initiatives aimed at improving public services and reduce infrastructure gaps, with the aim of improving the quality of life of citizens.
For its part, the Las Bambas mining company agreed to strengthen the capacities of Velille authorities and officials, with the aim of providing them with technical assistance to successfully use the instruments linked to public investment projects.
In this way, the Executive reaffirms its commitment to dialogue, as a way to peacefully resolve differences and guarantee the sustainable growth of Peru; and guarantees the conditions for the development of mining, as one of the key economic activities for the economic reactivation of the country.
