EU criticizes Russia for placing Italian and German subsidiaries under Gazprom control: Reuters

The European Union has criticized Russia for placing subsidiaries of an Italian and German company under “temporary external management” of the Gazprom entity, saying the move underscores Moscow’s disregard for standards international, said Reuters, citing BTA.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an order transferring to Gazprom Household Systems 100% of the shares of Russian structures, the Italian company Ariston, which specializes in water heating devices , as well as the German manufacturer of household appliances BSH Hausgeraete .

“These measures targeting legitimate economic activity are further evidence of Russia’s disregard for international law and regulations,” said a spokesperson for the EU’s diplomatic service. These actions prove that Russia , which is involved in the war in Ukraine, is also “an unpredictable actor in the economic field and has created a business environment of irregularity and hostility to foreign investors,” said a speak the EU.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, announced that the Russian ambassador in Rome was summoned today to provide clarification on the matter. Tajani said that the Italian and German governments are coordinating their activities with EU officials in Brussels.

Ariston said in a statement that the company was “deeply surprised” by Russia’s actions and was assessing the impact of Putin’s order.
