The Edmonton Oilers have gone back in the round of 16 playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings. After losing their last home game, they won 6-1 in California. The main goal for the Canadians was the three power shots, but above all the good start with three goals in the first period and the defensive work.

Leon Draisaitl added two goals and an assist and already has seven scoring points in this series. The Germany international has now scored 20 away goals in the playoffs – nobody has managed this in just 26 games. So far the record has been 29 games. Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also each scored three times in game three of the series. Draisaitl was satisfied with his Oilers’ performance: “We defended really well. A strong performance.” Edmonton now leads the series 2-1.

The Vancouver Canucks also recently responded to a home loss with an away win at the Nashville Predators and regained the series lead. They won 2-1 on Saturday night – the power play was successful for them too, twice. Twelve shots on goal were enough for the hosts to win, also as goalkeeper Casey DeSmith provided support with 29 saves.

The Colorado Avalanche were down 1-0 in the series against the Winnipeg Jets – now they are leading 2-1. In their first home game they turned a 1-2 deficit into a 6-2 victory. Coach Jared Bednar said: “The power plays give us life.

The New York Rangers have a chance to reach the semifinals. After an early deficit, they won 3-1 at the Washington Capitals. This game also supported the old theory that special teams make the difference, especially in the playoffs. A shortstop and a powerplay goal ensured the win.
