First day of reflection for Pedro Sánchez, who gave himself until Monday to decide whether or not to resign as head of the Executive, an unprecedented announcement in democracy. From the moment the leader of the Executive opened the channel on the social network
As far as the PSOE and the Government are concerned, still immersed in shock, their leaders have conspired since the moment of the announcement so that Sánchez does not give up and continues at the head of the Government, although in any case they have shown respect for what he decides and They have invited you to carry out the reflection that the president raises in his letter. Specifically, about “the harassment and demolition operation by land, sea and air, to try to make me weaken politically and, personally, by attacking my wife.”
Pedro Sánchez’s number two in the PSOE and in the Government, María Jesús Montero, told this Thursday how she found out about the President of the Government’s announcement to cancel his public agenda for a few days “I found out when he posted the letter on Twitter, as the rest of the citizens. After the control session, he retired to reflect,” added the first vice president and Minister of Finance on the radio program Hoy por hoy.
The deputy general secretary of the PSOE has also recommended reading the letter in which the president of the Government points out the keys that lead him to reflect on his future. “It is an act of absolute sensitivity, opening its heart to all citizens,” she said. Montero was one of the few people who, after the publication of the letter on social network X, went to Moncloa to meet with the President of the Government.
In that meeting, together with the ministers Félix Bolaños and Óscar Puente, and the number three of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, no scenarios were proposed: “What we did was see each other and share our way of living it and convey this understanding and respect, which is what Sánchez has asked for. “We are not talking about scenarios or speculation,” Montero stated.
However, Sánchez’s number two has acknowledged that the Government will fight to convince the head of the Executive not to resign and continue in office. “We are focused on trying to get positive energy to him, so that he recovers from this fatigue that has accumulated for a long time,” Montero said. The Executive wants the decision that Sánchez makes to be to continue leading “an essential project for this country that is being a successful project in economic and social matters.”
“React democratically”
The Sevillian leader has recognized that Sánchez “has to balance” Spain’s momentum with her project at the head of the Government and “the need to have a normal environment and situation in politics.” Although, he has regretted that the president is aware that “the theory of the right and extreme right is not going to stop,” emphasizing the campaign of “harassment and demolition” against left-wing leaders, which intensified after the amnesty law.
Immediately afterwards, in the same radio space, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero spoke out in these terms because, in addition, he also suffered first-person harassment during his time as President of the Government and General Secretary of the PSOE. “I understand Sánchez very well. There is a limit at which one suffers a lot, and that is the limit of your family.” Furthermore, he pointed out that “they said strong things against me, but with Pedro Sánchez they have crossed the line. “They have told him everything.” In any case, he has invited Sánchez to continue leading the coalition Executive: “Of course it’s worth it, Pedro.”
Whoever was the maximum leader of the PSOE fears that Sánchez will decide not to continue. “I have not spoken with Sánchez, but I know him. He is tempted to say ‘I can’t’. “We cannot stay still or be silent.” For this reason, given the debate arising from Sánchez’s complaint and how to act to prevent this type of situation in politics, Zapatero has called for “a democratic reaction.”

The Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has asked to go beyond the reflection process carried out by the Government leader. “We are trying to see what democracy we want and what quality of democracy we want,” he said in La Cafetera to denounce that the president is “the one who suffers the most from persecution at all levels.”
Likewise, the third vice president of the Government and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, has encouraged the head of the Executive to continue in office, as she considers that “false, falsified complaints like the ones we have seen, should not be a reason to turn back.” The PSOE candidate for the European elections understands that “democrats must take a step forward, say that it is worth it” in the face of what has been a turning point.
