AIK’s new acquisition Eskil Edh was injured in the Allsvenskan opener against Västerås. This meant that he missed the two subsequent rounds and then had to settle for a short appearance against Djurgården on Sunday. But on Wednesday he was back in the starting eleven and played 90 minutes in the 2-0 win at home against IFK Värnamo.
The Norwegian also scored his first goal in the AIK shirt. The full-back took advantage of a goalkeeper return and pushed in 1-0 early in the first half. The 21-year-old went completely wild with joy.
– It was very fun. I am very happy about it. When I heard the supporters cheering, it dawned on me that I had scored my first goal. Incredibly special, says Edh.
– I was in the right place at the right time. I was lucky that the ball came right to me. But we have agreed with Henning (Berg, coach) that we should have more players in the box. Now it paid off.
About AIK’s effort, he says:
– We were very solid defensively but we still have a lot we can do better when it comes to using the ball.
Incidentally, Edh is very happy to have already recovered from the injury. The risk was that he would be gone for a longer period.
– It feels very good. I got an injury in the first game. A small strain in my knee. It was actually supposed to take a little longer, but it has gone quickly. So it’s very nice to be back again. It would probably take anywhere from three to six weeks and now it took 19 days.
Norwegian Edh was not the only AIK player to score his first goal in black and yellow on Wednesday. So did center back Benjamin Tiedemann Hansen, who headed in a cross to make it 2-0.
– It was great to finally score and most importantly I was able to contribute to our victory. I have long dreamed of being able to celebrate a goal with the supporters. Fortunately, that only came five games into this season. It was really lovely, says Tiedemann Hansen.
AIK stands on eleven points after five games played in this year’s Allsvenskan. The team is second in the series.
