Cuban girl who needed a liver transplant dies in Mexico – 2024-04-26 15:02:19

Ashley Manuela Echaide Mesa, a Cuban girl whose family did everything possible to obtain a humanitarian visa to treat her abroaddied in Mexico this weekend, shortly after receiving a liver transplant.

The little girl’s death was confirmed by friends and family, who lamented the sad event on social networks.

“With deep pain we are shocked, Ashley, our little girl, has died in Mexico after several days of being transplanted. Our prayers and support go to her mother Yaniris, to her grandmother Caridad and to her tireless human Angel, Nelson Álvarez,” Cuban activist Yankiel Fernández indicated on Facebook.

For her part, the minor’s mother, Yanirys Mesa, has not spoken on social networks, but her Facebook profile has been filled with people who regret what happened, and who send their condolences to the little girl’s relatives.

“Your love and affection was what characterized you most… Full of life and light… Today we have to cry for you”; “My friend, I have no words of comfort for you and your mom. I am a witness to everything you fought to bring your baby forward” and “I have no words to express the pain that your loss has caused us,” were just some of the dozens of posts left on her Facebook wall.

The case of little Ashley

Last January, Mesa attacked the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), because it promised to take the minor to Spain for surgery, something that had not happened when he began to ask that the minor’s case be made visible.

The woman revealed that the little girl, only three years old, had been hospitalized in intensive care since April of last year, so she began to ask the Cuban regime to help her obtain a humanitarian visa with the aim of removing her from the Island.

On that occasion, the minor’s mother revealed that, despite her young age, she had undergone several surgeries, which is why she had spent a large part of her life hospitalized.

For years, Cuban patients who require complicated operations or transplants have had to have them performed abroad, since the self-proclaimed medical power does not have the medical resources to be able to do them.

Additionally, the Island must face the mass exodus of Cubans, among whom are a good number of health professionals who prefer to seek a better quality of life abroad, which further complicates the situation with the medical system in the Greater Antilles.
