Leverkusen extends unbeaten streak to 45 games by drawing 1-1 with Dortmund

Berlin. Josip Stanišić scored in added time as champions Bayer Leverkusen preserved their unbeaten record with a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Leverkusen substitute Florian Wirtz sent in a corner kick which Stanišić headed in to equalize in the seventh minute of added time as the visitors extended their unbeaten run to 45 games in all competitions.

“Today was crazy,” said Stanišić.

Leverkusen, who confirmed their first Bundesliga title last weekend, looked set to suffer their first defeat since the final day of last season when Niclas Füllkrug scored for Dortmund in the 81st minute.

Marcel Sabitzer passed the ball to Füllkrug, who scored with a volley and Leverkusen had come closer to opening the scoring.

Tension increased near the end, before Stanišić left the champions celebrating for another week.

“Our goal is to complete the season without losing,” said Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Xabi Alonso’s team will compete in the final of the German Cup and face Roma in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final on May 2.
