/ world today news/ Sergey Lavrov revealed where Russia is going during his speech at the ambassadorial round table. The general conclusion is the following: Russia has completely broken with the West, no longer trusts it and will go its own way. But, of course, the details are always interesting. More on that below.
As reported by RT, the meeting was attended by ambassadors from 35 countries. Therefore, it is quite possible to say that Lavrov’s speech was programmatic – he spoke about Russia’s new course. Formally, the discussion was on “the topic of resolving the situation around Ukraine.” But it was the Ukrainian issue that led to a change of course.
Hence the problematic nature of the minister’s speech – he spoke not only and not so much about Ukraine, clearly delineating “our point of view”which would be “useful” for his listeners to hear, but also on other important matters.
Lavrov touched on five main topics on November 8, which we will now consider in order: they affect everyone.
The West’s hybrid war against Russia is long overdue, the US has decided to “spend”… Europe
Lavrov noted a long, protracted conflict with the West that he is leading “hybrid war” against Russia “with the hands of Ukraine and the bodies of Ukrainians”. It assigns a special role to illegal unilateral restrictive measures – “sanctions”. Their number is unprecedented and has already exceeded 17 thousand.
The main purpose of sanctions is to hit ordinary people harder, “to provoke riots and raise the people against the authorities’. The minister pointed out that the goals directly declared by the West are:
Undermining the Russian economy, forcing the political leadership to abandon its independent line in foreign affairs, and turning the population against the government.
The West, Lavrov emphasized, will not succeed, “this is already clear to everyone, including the very initiators of sanctions and other illegal actions.” Russia’s GDP growth by the end of 2023 will be close to three percent (2.8-2.9), while Europe’s leading economies are in the red, having been hit first by Western sanctions.
In this regard, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry drew attention to two points: the harmful role of America and the negative consequences of the sanctions policy for the world economy. Lavrov noted:
The United States is ruining its European vassals and allowing its military-industrial complex to make money, it has imposed and continues to impose expensive US LNG on the EU, and with its selfish laws it is forcing European companies to relocate businesses overseas to places where the base costs of business are lower.
At the same time, Washington continues to “buy uranium and other “critical” materials from Russia. The financial losses of European business due to Western unilateral sanctions for a year and a half amount to at least 250 billion euros.
The crisis in the world economy, the Russian diplomat pointed out, was caused not by the denazification of Ukraine by Russia, not by the protection of its Russian population, but by the anti-Russian sanctions of the West. And also mostly from “systemic errors in the macroeconomic policies of Western countries during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerating the course towards a green transformation, without taking into account the characteristics and main indicators of the economic development of most countries in the world”.
And what is very important, Lavrov confirmed:
The sanctions imposed against us will not be lifted in the foreseeable and distant future.
And then follows the most interesting: “To be honest, we don’t even need it.” Why? Because, without striving for isolationism and autarky, the Russians have already “made their choice”.
We will now rely exclusively on ourselves in critical areas to ensure the security and sustainable development of society,
– emphasized the minister, citing repeated statements on this issue by President Vladimir Putin.
During the period of sanctions, Lavrov noted, Russia has formed “the potential for the development of industrial production, the creation of critical technologies, and a special law on high technologies is currently being prepared.”
National currencies in international payments instead of dollars
At the same time, he continued, it is being created “a mechanism not controlled by the West to serve trade, build new transport corridors and establish production and supply chains that are not subject to any harmful and malicious influence from outside”.
„A sign of the times,” according to Lavrov, it became “the wide use of national currencies in international payments; a gradual and stable decrease in the share of the dollar and the euro is noted”. This process also includes China, India, Turkey, UAE, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, Kenya and a number of ASEAN countries.
Among the “locomotives” of dedollarization are the EAEU and the CIS, within which the share of payments in national currencies reached 85-90%. BRICS is also working on the idea of creating a common unit of account – in addition to national currencies. And that’s just the beginning.
Energy, the reversal of the Russian energy complex to the east and south, the boomerang of the Nord Stream
In addition, Lavrov reiterated that the instability of the world energy market is provoked by the United States and its vassals, which threatens the sustainable development of the world economy. Westerners, of course, attributed the problems to the SVO, but their real reasons were different.
First of all, this is forcing the “green transition” and imposing it, according to Lavrov, on countries that are not ready for it, limiting investments in the oil and gas sector, which allegedly harms the environment, and abandoning traditional fuels for the same reason. Combined with a boycott of energy resources from Russia, sanctions and other anti-market measures of the West
These steps have led to the disruption of historically established production – logical chains, the redistribution of global energy flows and an increase in transaction and logistics costs.
Russia, noted Lavrov, managed to cope with these challenges: reforms in the fuel and energy complex began, the sovereignty of the industry was strengthened – technological, personnel, financial, “a new export geography has emerged, which is being effectively absorbed, with good results at that.”
In a short time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said, it is possible to redirect the supply of oil, gas and coal to rapidly developing and promising markets, primarily India, China and other countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America. We know that supplies from Russia allow our partners to control the rise in the price of energy raw materials and thus strengthen their economic stability.
That is, we also help our friends!
In this regard, Lavrov recalled the American terrorist attack against the Russian “Nord Stream” in the Baltic Sea, which finally undermined “Europe’s hopes that one day cheap gas will return and, as before, stimulate their economy”. Instead, environmentally conscious Europeans now get expensive American gas “with quite a negative carbon footprint”.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry seems to have completely lost faith in the Europeans, saying: “It’s their choice. They submitted to the hegemon and they have to learn from that (if they still can)”. Lavrov also complained that Russia still cannot receive from them “a clear answer to who and how is investigating this terrorist attack”. By which the head of Russian diplomacy is not at all surprised:
This has already become a “brand” of the West: when situations arise in which, as we say, “the stigma is in the cannon”, they do their best to “package” any information on this topic.
Bullying requires punishment and must not be repeated
Abroad, false and hypocritical statements are often heard and published in the media about the “Massacre in Bucha”. Recalling how the Westerners, together with the Ukrainians, carried out this vile anti-Russian provocation, which Moscow has long demanded be investigated, Lavrov said:
Since then (a year and a half has already passed) no one has said a word about what investigation is being conducted and by whom… They “secured” the necessary external effect, got a pretext for new sanctions, but they carefully hid their lies so deeply that no one would get to the bottom of it .
Making claims to the UN which “cannot escape responsibility in these matters”, about his reluctance to investigate the crime against Russia, Lavrov sent a clear signal: Moscow will not rest as long as these lies continue to be believed. This is especially relevant, he noted, now that “the problems of international humanitarian law have become more acute in relation to what is happening in the Middle East”.
Food security: The West is undermining it, Russia is saving it
Lavrov said that Russia and the Special Military Operation were not to blame for the food crisis and, as Westerners fear, “the impending world famine.” This, according to him, is the work of the West, “when at the very beginning of the covid-19 pandemic the united states, japan and europe printed trillions of unsecured money, bought all the food they could wherever possible in the expectation that covid-19 would force everyone to “shut down” and thus will create an acute crisis in the world food market.’
According to UN data, there is currently no shortage of food in the markets “world food prices have fallen by almost 25% since March 2022 to record lows – now roughly at 2021 levels.”, the minister pointed out.
Russia’s exit from the so-called grain deal, whose Russian “package” never materialized, Lavrov added, caused excitement in the West mainly because “more than a third of Ukraine’s fertile land was bought up by American food companies who make money from it”and they were worried that their profits were now going to decrease.
At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the fact that only 3% of food from Ukraine goes to poor countries. And the West also deprived them and deprives them of hundreds of thousands of tons of Russian fertilizers blocked in European ports. Moscow is ready to deliver this product, as well as grain, to the six most needy African countries (Somalia, Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali and Eritrea) free of charge.
At the same time, the UN Secretary-General shrugs helplessly. However, the West “stubbornly, looking UN Secretariat staff in the eye, states that no sanctions have been imposed on food and fertilizers from Russia.” “This is another example of Western lies,” emphasized the minister.
So what?
Lavrov’s speech cannot fail to please: there will be no retreat, Russia will continue to follow the path it has chosen.
Negotiating your development and freedom with anyone – especially the deceitful West – is humiliating. Russia has not only realized it, but is already behaving accordingly.
The road ahead of you is not easy and short. However, for the first time in its history, Russian citizens can be firmly assured that their sacrifices (currently, generally minimal) on the way to a better and lasting future will finally not be in vain. We will certainly build it as we are no longer building on sand.
