Multiple-death tragedies in search of criminal responsibilities that run through the “backbone” of society, cases that touch the core of the functioning of the rule of law and have a strong political impact, “compose” the canvas of pending cases that is currently called upon to manage and investigate the Justice.
As for her decisions? These, either due to the nature of the specific cases or due to the status of the persons who are under the prosecution and judicial microscope, as a matter of fact, will have a reflection on the road to the European elections.
1. Telephone monitoring
In absolute secrecy, the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court Achilles of Life is investigating the case of telephone monitoring, after a relevant order from the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Georgia Adelini he got the “thread” from the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office. The supreme prosecutor, according to reports, in the last six months that he has in his hands the hot wiretapping file, has examined dozens of witnesses.
The last to pass through the door of his office were journalists, who provided revealing reports on the case mainly regarding the key issue of the connection of specific companies and persons under criminal investigation. Another crucial “chapter” of the investigation concerns the cross-checking of the list of the Personal Data Protection Authority with those solicited by the EYP in order to ascertain whether or not a common monitoring center actually existed and operated.
2. “Leaking” voter e-mails
Even before the official pre-election period for the June 9 European elections began, the well-known subject of the “leakage” of e-mails belonging to foreign residents that came into the possession of the New Democracy MEP dominated the news. Annas-Michel Asimakopoulou. For this case… the investigations of the Personal Data Protection Authority and the Athens District Attorney’s Office are ongoing, while the first lawsuits have already been filed in the administrative court by voters for the leakage of their personal data.
Any decision of the Authority, which has already requested relevant explanations from all parties involved, and is expected before June 9, beyond the self-evident importance and value it has due to the constitutional role performed by the Independent Authority, will also be included in its file preliminary examination conducted by the public prosecutor George Noulis.
3. The Thorn of the “Spartans”
The “key” to the developments for the parliamentary future of the “Spartans” is held by the members of the Supreme Special Court (Electoral Court), before which the relevant appeals were discussed and the time is already counting down for the issuance of the decision, which directly depends on what it is going to happen with the particular party. In other words, it depends on the decision of the supreme judges whether the “Spartans” will be out of Parliament in the near future.
As is known, the order of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court for the criminal prosecution of all MPs who were elected with this party, except for its president, has preceded Vasilis Stiga for defrauding the electorate. The decision of the A1 Political Department of the Supreme Court on April 24 on the declaration of the parties is also awaited with interest, as it will show whether or not the “Spartans” manage to pass the Supreme Court’s “radar” for participating in the European elections. .
4. The disaster of Tempe
The eyes of the entire society are focused on the investigations of the Justice on the tragedy of Tempe with the 57 dead. For the complete and substantial investigation of the case of Tempe, two major investigative investigations are underway at the same time. The first and basic one is the one carried out by the appellant-expert investigator of Larisa Sotiris Bakaimis about the causes of the fatal accident, but also what followed, such as e.g. the filling of the site, with the result that even now the authorities are looking for finds in tons of soil that had been moved to another place.
For their part, the European Investigator Christina Salappa and the mandated European Public Prosecutor Popi Papandreou complete in a few days the cycle of apologies of the 23 non-political persons criminally controlled for the famous contract 717 concerning the remote control and signaling of the railway network. To date, all the defendants have been released, but with high bails of up to 900,000 euros.
5. Fire in the Eye
It took almost six years for the relatives of the 104 dead from the deadly fire in Mati for the hour of judgment to arrive for the 21 defendants, who share the dock as responsible for the national tragedy that took place in July 2018. The moment when they waited enough.
On the morning of April 29, the president of the court will announce the – first instance – verdict from which will be judged the guilt or not of those who have been referred and are being tried mainly for what they failed to do in those critical hours when so many people were martyred.
