Three VAR Moments Help Indonesia Defeat South Korea in U-23 Asian Cup Quarter-Final

The score remained 2-2 until the end of regular time and two extra rounds. However, Indonesia eventually won the match after winning in a dramatic penalty shootout with a score of 11-10.

Justin Hubner’s penalty kick was replayed

VAR’s third advantage was for Indonesia in the quarter-finals when referee Justin Hubner again decided on a penalty kick.

This happened after Justin’s penalty kick was again decided by the referee, because there was a break with the South Korean goalkeeper Baek Jong-Beom.

Based on the VAR review, Justin’s penalty was replayed, because previously both of Baek Jong-Beom’s feet had moved away from the goal line before the kick was taken.

Justin, who was Indonesia’s fifth kicker in the penalty shootout, also successfully fulfilled his duties again. The number 10 player’s left foot kick managed to send the ball into the bottom left corner of the South Korean goal.

Entering the semi-final of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, the opponent who will face the Indonesian U-23 National Team will be the winner of the match between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia. Uzbekistan vs Saudi Arabia match will only take place on Friday evening (26/4) local time or at 21.00 WIB.
