Thailand Heat Wave: Up to 30 People Dead from Severe Weather, Bangkok Issues Heat Warning

Thailand hit by severe weather. Up to 30 people are reported to have died so far this year due to heat stroke in the country.

Reported AFP, Thursday (25/4/2024), Bangkok city authorities issued a severe heat warning for the capital. The warning was released after the region’s heat index rose above 52 degrees Celsius.

It was reported that the air temperature in Bangkok reached 40.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (24/4) local time. It is estimated that the same level will be recorded on Thursday (25/4) local time.

The heat index is a measure of temperature that takes into account humidity, wind speed and other factors. According to the Thai capital’s environment department, Bangkok’s heat index is at a “very dangerous” level.

Authorities in Udon Thani Province, a rural area in northeastern Thailand, also warned of very hot temperatures on Thursday (25/4) local time.

30 people died

Ministry of Health Thailand on Wednesday night (24/4) that at least 30 people died from heatstroke between January 1 and April 17. This figure is relatively high compared to the total of 37 people who died due to heat stroke in 2023.

A wave of very hot weather has hit parts of South Asia and South East Asia this week. This extreme heat caused schools across the Philippines to be closed and congregations in Bangladesh to hold prayers together for rain.
