The National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) announced the participation of Paul Romer, 2018 Nobel Prize in Economics as a keynote speaker at the SYMPOSIUM – XV International Mining Meeting, which will take place from May 21 to 23 in the JW Marriott Hotel in Lima.
The economist will give a keynote lecture as part of the block “Macroeconomic and Geopolitical Perspectives and their impact in Latin America”, which will take place on the first day of the XV SYMPOSIUM. After his Conference, he will hold a dialogue with two important Peruvian economists: The former Minister of Economy and Finance and Founding Partner of MakePeru, Alonso Segura; and the Director of the Peruvian Institute of Economics (IPE) and member of the Board of Directors of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR), Diego Macera.
Paul Romer is a university professor at Boston College, where he directs his new Center for the Economy of Ideas. In 2018, he received the Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on endogenous growth theory.
Romer served as chief economist at the World Bank, where he worked to advance the multilateral institution’s critical research function. He was founding director of New York University’s Marron Institute of Urban Management, which aims to help cities plan their future and improve the health, safety and mobility of their citizens. He also launched the concept of a city-scale startup that he called Charter City, in honor of the first United States constitution.
