King Charles gave his son Prince William and his wife Princess Catherine new royal titles on Tuesday, April 23. Charles nominated his daughter-in-law Catherine as a member of the Knights of Honor.

The appointment is historic, as Catherine is the first royal consort to be elected to the Knights of Honor.

Membership of the Order is usually awarded to those who have made significant achievements in the fields of art, science, politics or medicine. A maximum of 65 people can belong to the Order at any one time.

Other notable nominees include actresses Maggie Smith and Judi Dench, musician Paul McCartney, nature documentary presenter David Attenborough and author JK Rowling. Former members included physicist Stephen Hawking and Winston Churchill, who served as prime minister during the Second World War.

At the same time Charles appointed William Grand Master of the Order of the Bath. The position of Grand Master has been vacant since 2022, when Charles ascended the throne.

On Tuesday, William and Catherine also celebrated their son Prince Louis’ birthday. To celebrate the little prince’s sixth birthday, the family published a picture of Louis taken by Catherine.
