A mother who works as a teacher in the province of Santiago de Cuba is fighting for her life after being stabbed by her ex-partner and father of her children.
According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the incident occurred last Sunday, April 21, in the Hoyo de Chicharrones neighborhood, and the victim was identified as Triana Ferrer, an educator at school 31 ‘Fernando Proll Céspedes’.
While the identity of the attacker has not been revealed, it is known that he was the victim’s partner, but they were already separated at the time of the attack. The man turned himself in to the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) after committing the crime, because he thought he had murdered the woman.
According to the communicator, the victim’s neighbors stated that the aggressor had a history of gender violence, and that he had already attacked Ferrer in the past, even injuring his face and arm with a sharp object.
At the moment, the woman remains admitted to a room at the ‘Joaquín Castillo Duany’ Military Hospital, which is located in the Los Cangrejitos neighborhood, in the main municipality of the territory.
Some users, who claimed to be closely following the incident, stated in Mayeta Labrada’s publication that the woman is evolving favorably.
Among the comments, several Internet users claimed to know Ferrer, describing her as a good woman and an excellent teacher, which is why they were very concerned about her state of health.
“My preschool teacher. How could that man do that to him? It’s incredible how the authorities release him like that, so quickly, so he can do his thing. I wish a speedy recovery to my teacher, Triana, and strength for her children,” wrote one of the users.
The publication was also accompanied by a heartbreaking video in which the woman’s neighbors and relatives are taking her to the hospital after the attack. In it, a voice that appears to be that of one of the woman’s daughters, or a young woman nearby, can be heard as she desperately screams for help, stating that Ferrer was dying.
For now, there are no more details about the case, and the official press has not commented on the matter.
According to the island’s feminist platforms, Cuba has experienced 17 femicides since 2024 began, as well as two confirmed cases of attempted murder against women for gender reasons.
