Armenians living in Thessaloniki held a protest march to the Turkish consulate, on the occasion of the 109th anniversary of the Genocide. In Athens, an awareness campaign was held and wreaths were laid at the monument located in Nea Smyrni (Chrysostomou Square of Smyrna) and dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The demonstrators of Thessaloniki gathered in Hagia Sophia and marched shouting slogans, with which they demanded the condemnation of Turkey for the Armenian Genocide. In front of the Turkish consulate, at the height of Manolaki Kyriakou street, a barricade with police vehicles was placed.
The protesters formed with candles on the pavement the year 1915, which marked the beginning of the Genocide, and then walked away.
