Jakarta –
Military Israel has expanded attacks to the city of Rafah, Palestine. Despite public international criticism, Israel said it would not stop plans to attack Rafah.
“Israel is continuing our work to target Hamas in Rafah,” said Israeli government spokesman David Mencer. AFPWednesday (24/4/2024).
Mencer said his party had sent two reserve blocks of Israeli soldiers into the mission. Israel aimed to attack the remaining Hamas battalion in the city of Rafah.
“The four remaining battalions in Rafah cannot be defended from Israel. They will be attacked,” he said.
Israel’s widespread attack on Rafah has drawn criticism from the international community. Earlier this month, a spokesman for the United States State Department, Matthew Miller, said that Israel’s attack on Gaza would result in heavy civilian casualties. 2.4 million Gaza residents are known to have taken refuge there Rafah.
“A major military attack on Rafah would have a devastating impact on the civilians trapped there and ultimately harm Israel’s security,” Matthew Miller said earlier this month.
The war between Israel and Hamas has been raging since October 7, 2023. The war started after Hamas attacked Israel and as a result 1,170 people died.
Israel then launched a retaliatory attack on Gaza, Palestine. A total of 34,262 people have died in Gaza as a result of the war so far. The majority of victims are women and children.
