A 44-year-old Cuban woman, who had been in the United States for less than nine months, was murdered by her partner this weekend in the city of Florida City, located in Miami-Dade County.
According to the media Univision 23the woman was identified as Yessenia Rodríguez Márquez, who was killed the night of last Saturday, April 20.
The authorities report indicates that the perpetrator would have been her boyfriend, identified as Alexander Roque, 48 years old.
The aforementioned media indicates that the woman had a relationship with Roque for three months, during which time she received several warnings from her family regarding her partner’s behavior.
“I told her that this man seemed strange to me, that he seemed crazy, but she said no, that he was a good and calm man,” declared the deceased’s sister-in-law.
According to authorities, Roque surrendered to the Florida City police station shortly after committing the heinous crime, while carrying the victim’s body with him.
The arrest report states that Roque would have called the victim’s ex-husband, this to tell him that he had ended the woman’s life and send him photographs of her body inside his vehicle.
After driving for a while through the streets of Florida City with the body in the passenger seat, Roque called a cousin to confess what he had done. This cousin would have been the one who recommended that he turn himself in to the authorities.
Additionally, the woman’s family claims that she and her 12-year-old daughter were held captive for several days before the homicide occurred. Likewise, they said that the woman tried on multiple occasions to end the relationship, but that the man would not let her.
Roque appeared this Monday before a Miami-Dade court, where the judge in charge of the case denied him the right to bail and charged him with second-degree murder.
After what happened, the Miami-Dade Police Homicide Office began an investigation to find out the reasons why such a crime was carried out. At the moment, the victim’s mother, who resides in Ecuador, is requesting a humanitarian visa to be able to say goodbye to her daughter one last time.
