The new Murakami novel arrives in Peru

Haruki Murakami, Princess of Asturias Award for Literature 2023.

Murakami’s new novel in six years will be available starting today, Wednesday, March 13, for readers in Spanish, the second language into which it is translated after its successful publication in Japan in 2023.

The city and its uncertain walls It’s a wonderful fever dream. A dream that shows that hope, longing and desire (and of course daring) are enough to break down the implacable walls that separate us from others. Although it may take us a lifetime to achieve it. It is also a melancholic and philosophical novel about lost love, about identity and self-discovery.

About the book: Little does the young protagonist of this novel imagine that the girl he has fallen in love with is about to disappear from his life. They met during a contest between students from different institutes, and they don’t get to see each other very often. In their meetings, sitting under the wisteria in a park or walking along the banks of a river, the young woman tells him about a strange walled city, located in another world; Little by little she confesses her disturbing feeling that her true self is in that mysterious city. Suddenly, in the fall, the protagonist receives a letter from her that may mean farewell to her, and that plunges him into deep sadness. Years will have to pass before he can glimpse any possibility of finding her again. And yet, that city, as she described it, exists. Because everything is possible in this amazing universe where reality, identity, dreams and shadows fluctuate and escape the rigid limits of logic.

Given: If you want to experience an unforgettable encounter between the Murakami universe and the music that characterizes it, we invite you to the Murakami Sessions this Tuesday, March 19 at 7:00 pm at Librería Sur. With the special participation of Elisa Tokeshi.
