Not having faith in anything is the worst thing that can happen to a person. Among the evils that corrode souls in our time, infidelity must certainly be highlighted. One could say: let he who is not unfaithful cast the first stone. In a certain sense we all are. Mass infidelity produces a cold world. Whoever has faith in something has warmth. An internal warmth that is somehow also felt on the outside. The sum of these loyalties and therefore of these fires produces a fervor, produces a warm society. Heat is the premise for real turning points, for real revolutions.

If we think about the public scene he is certainly a champion of infidelity Salvini. And this infidelity occurs precisely due to a lack of true passion. You are with someone and then you are with someone else according to convenience. We could also find an example of infidelity in the young murderer of Giulia Cecchettin. Whoever is faithful to his love could never kill him. It is precisely the betrayal of our feelings that is the basis of certain gestures. The femicide feels betrayed, but in reality it is he who betrays because his feelings are only apparently warm, in reality they are ghostly.

If once the word infidelity was mainly linked to the events of the bedroom, today we could say that the elective place of infidelity has become the Internet. We say we love an artist but then if someone mocks him we do nothing to defend him. Indeed, we often associate ourselves with mockery and this is clear proof of our infidelity. If we really believed in that person our attitude would be much more rigorous.

Let’s think for a moment about the young partisans who lost their lives in the name of defending freedom. Today we sell ourselves for a like. Today on the Internet we can be friends with someone and even with those who insult them with violence.

A society of infidels cannot transmit much to its children: we often complain about the moral inertia of children, forgetting our own inertia, forgetting that we often limit ourselves to describing good without giving it. And this too is an example of infidelity: if we truly believed the truths we pronounce we would be willing to defend them but instead we are ready to find a thousand excuses to justify our perceptive slip: we literally don’t know how to look, we don’t know how to choose which side we’re on, because we don’t believe enough in any position. We don’t believe what we think and we don’t believe what others think. It is also useless to ask us to change our minds about something, for the simple reason that we don’t have any real ideas in our heads. We just have a mixture of resentments and disappointments. Our goals are vague and changing. And a confirmation of this condition also occurs at the polls. Once upon a time the algebra of parties was marked by small numbers. Now you can have in a short time what is not yours and in a short time what is not yours can be taken away from you. Once again Salvini is a perfect example of this situation.

The only way to remedy our infidelity and that of others is to understand that infidelity causes damage, it is never a convenient solution in the long run. Man’s life takes on meaning thanks to faith and I am not talking about faith in a religious sense, but in a broader dimension. Faith as attachment, as the ability to lovingly invest in someone outside of us.
When we talk about emotional education in schools we should first of all talk about helping students to have faith, to believe strongly in something. If it doesn’t happen it’s obviously because there are those who have an interest in keeping us undecided and unfaithful. A man who believes in nothing is more easily prey to the chimeras represented by goods: after all, the new mobile phone tempts us more than maintaining a strong friendship.

The infidels advance and with them spiritual misery advances and therefore the need for material goods to fill the interior void. The operation is obviously a failure, but everyone thinks that the failure concerns the others, that we have found a way to get by. We delude ourselves that we can still preach things we don’t believe, set goals we will never fight for. And if we don’t fight for ourselves it is useless to imagine that we can fight for others or for the health of the world. Lack of faith chills us more and more. We cross a cold desert that we ourselves have built.
