If beauty, thanks to social media, is now made up of micro trends that last less and less, as far as the way of coloring and designing nails is concerned, the trends could be defined as sudden. At least those that start from social media, TikTok first and foremost, where every week, based on the manicure that the major beauty influencers of this generation choose – for nail art, Hailey Bieber and Sofia Richie above all – the nail art trend transforms. There were the “Glazed donut nails”, le “Pink pearl nails”, le “Strawberry milk nails” e le “Blueberry milk nails”, just to name a few of the most viral manicures in the past year. This is why talking about nail trends for spring/summer 2024 – therefore a period of several months – is not at all easy. Without giving too much attention to the passionate falling in love on social media, there are however some colours, designs and combinations that are emerging as stronger for this season: we asked Massimo Albini, OPI Trainer Manager, for help to understand which ones are the main manicure and nail art trends of spring/summerbut above all to understand which ones will last.

From peach to green to brown: nature on the nails
“Spring/summer offers a versatile, verdant, earthy palette that features organic oranges and energized greens, which also give a sense of calm and mysticism,” Massimo Albini tells us. Pantone color of the year, Peach Fuzza delicate and very summery peach shade, will also be the protagonist on the nails: “It is a mix of pink and yellow that gives life to a refreshing, energetic and regenerating orange; a perfect color for a lively and non-invasive manicure, which is extremely versatile in combinations from denim to raw and white linen”, suggests the expert.
Alongside orange, there are earthy colours: “For those who want to highlight the silhouette of the nail shape in a delicate and relaxing foliage effect, I recommend the shades of Sage greentrending along with nutshell, a soft, spicy brown, similar to a lightly toasted nut; a trans-seasonal color that evokes sensations of warmth and reassurance”. Finally, among the other chromatic references of the season, there are “the blue sky à la Kandinsky as a manifesto of freedom and the light purple renamed Millennial purple for this generation’s streetwear success,” says Albini.
Forme: dual form o naturale?
The general trend is that of a return to the natural nail: “Thanks to the success of the semi-permanent color systems of the new nail polishes, which allow a regrowth-proof duration, the natural length is also the most trendy, as well as the most practical”, the expert tells us. On the contrary, however, curiosity is growing around dual form, special tips that allow you to lengthen the nail bed: “Many young girls are grappling with the recent success of dual forms, i.e. special tips that, like a reusable mould, adapt to their own nail and facilitate and speed up the application of the product of reconstruction for nail lengthening”. A trend that Albini warns against: “I already see aspiring do-it-yourselfers ruining their nails due to incorrect applications, poor quality products and aggressive and hasty removals.”
From the “floating French” to the mix of colours: summer nail art
The key word for the season’s nail designs is discretion: “Simpler, more delicate designs will be something we see a lot more of, alongside more classic looks with clean manicures and the ability to add small, discreet designs,” the trainer explains to us manager. Among these more classic manicures, the success of the French manicure continues, which however we will see in a new version: “Its latest update is called ‘Floating French’ and involves positioning the white or colored line not at the tip of the nail, but towards the center or laterally, perhaps combining different colors on a neutral base”. The update of the manicure baby boomerin which pink is shaded with white, for the summer “is replaced with shades of beige, to adapt to the tanned skin tone”.
As for the designs, among the most trendy Albini reports “a great return of nails with spiral and multicolor design“, together with “Yayoi Kusama style punctuationto celebrate the retrospective dedicated to her at the Palazzo della Ragione in Bergamo”.
Finally, perhaps the funniest novelty of the season is the new fashion of customize the colors by combining different nail polishes: “Now the nail polishes are mixed to obtain their own shade or a ‘creamy’ opaque color is worn as a base together with pearly, iridescent or glittery ‘veiled’ effect colors to change the final result”.
