The San Fernando Hospital announced that it will take administrative and judicial measures after discovering a million-dollar financial loss in its Accounting Unit.
The information was released in the middle of this month from the management of the health facility to representatives of various unions in the healthcare facility, who were informed about the loss of economic resources, the million-dollar amount of which is still unknown.
“Due to the discovery of an irregular financial situation evidenced in the Accounting Unit, the San Fernando Hospital informs that all the necessary administrative and judicial measures have been adopted to determine possible responsibilities,” they said from management.
They indicated that “The management initiated a disciplinary process and filed a criminal complaint against those found responsible; and the consolidated information was also sent to the State Defense Council, Public Ministry, Regional Comptroller’s Office and O’Higgins Health Service; The latter are in person at the establishment, collecting information through an audit and providing the necessary technical support.”
In this scenario, the hospital has committed to providing background information to clarify the facts and determine responsibilities. “The San Fernando Hospital is providing all the information required to facilitate the investigation, both internal and that carried out by the rest of the competent external entities,” they indicated from the healthcare facility.
CONCERN ABOUT LACK OF CONTROL
This incident was described as “very serious” by FENATS San Fernando, since it had already occurred in the unit nine years ago, they indicated. And the concern of the leaders focuses on the lack of control and supervision on the part of the leadership.
“We are strongly struck by the precariousness and vulnerability of the system; and the real lack of control and supervision of the leadership in charge of the unit and of the other actors who must worry about safeguarding public money, both in its use and expenses, as well as in the form of payment and to whom said money is paid, that the amounts are appropriate and agreed upon,” they declared.
From the union they added that “The actions carried out by removing only one official from the unit, leaving the person in charge of said department in his position, who is the one who must protect and ensure that the work is the most optimal and appropriate, which demonstrates the lack of compliance with their obligations.”
From FENATS San Fernando they assure that “we would have expected, as a union, that safeguards would be taken in every sense in the face of this very serious and worrying situation, and even more so when the actors repeat themselves in similar positions and responsibilities, as is the fact that many of These headquarters were already working when situations similar to those that occurred were discovered.”
In this sense, the union organization expressed its disagreement with the internal audits and requests that they be carried out by external auditors. Furthermore, they request that the investigation corresponding to the administrative summary conducted be carried out by people who are not, nor have been, officials of the establishment.
They concluded by expressing “It is time for you (director) as the highest authority to take the corresponding safeguards that allow you to protect the work team and who feel violated and questioned in the eyes of the other officials of the establishment.”
