In 2023, the Hellenic nation ranked No. 68 in the ranking of destinations in the Peruvian offer, whose ranking was led by China, the United States, Canada, India and South Korea.
In order to enhance bilateral trade with Greece, which in 2023 amounted to US$ 41 million 300 thousand (exports and imports), the Association of Exporters (ADEX) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Helexpo, an entity that organizes congresses and cultural events in the European country.
In 2023, shipments (to Greece) amounted to US$ 13 million 841 thousand and represented only 0.02% of the total. The Hellenic nation ranked No. 68 in the ranking of Peruvian destinations, whose ranking was led by China, the United States, Canada, India and South Korea.
The president of the union, Julio Pérez Alván, commented that the signing of the document is the beginning of a series of activities that will seek to promote mutual cooperation and the international positioning of their companies in fairs and other events.
Two of them are the Expoalimentaria, to be held in Peru from September 25 to 27 at the Jockey Convention Center and the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in Greece, with the purpose of continuing to diversify the national supply markets by adding other Central Europe and the Balkans.
“Since 2020, shipments to this destination have maintained sustained growth, highlighting unroasted or decaffeinated coffee, frozen squid, fungicides based on copper compounds, quinoa and cocoa butter,” said the president of ADEX.
For our part – he continued – in 2023 we will import from Greece for US$ 27 million 400 thousand, highlighting canned peaches, bentonite and beauty and skin care preparations.
Likewise, he highlighted the work of the public-private sector in the organization of the Freddo Lovers event, last January, in which the export of special coffee produced by small farmers from La Convencion, Chanchamayo, Río Tambo and San Ignacio was promoted.
“Now ADEX and Helexpo have the responsibility in their hands to continue contributing to the commercial promotion of the existing offer. The signed document is the beginning of a fruitful collaboration that will allow us to show the goods and services of Peru and Greece,” he noted.
In turn, the Ambassador of Greece in Peru, Eleni Lianidou, and the president of Helexpo, Anastasios Tzikas, highlighted the potential of both countries and agreed that the signed memorandum will allow us to strengthen and take advantage of existing opportunities.
Also present were the director of ADEX, Rafael del Campo; the director of the CIEN-ADEX Global Business and Economy Research Center, Edgar Vásquez Vela, the central manager of Exports, Diego Llosa and the Manager of Institutional Relations and Agreements of the union, Ysabel Segura, among others.
