Former American football player OJ Simpson, acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife in a high-profile trial, died this Thursday at the age of 76, his family reported in a statement. He has died “surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” says this note, in which the family asks for privacy “during this time of transition.”
Simpson denied in February that he had been admitted to a nursing home, following the publication of information about an alleged diagnosis of prostate cancer that he did not deny.
His sports resume includes eleven seasons in the NFL, although this legacy was overshadowed by the stabbing murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and a friend in June 1994.
